A Whitepaper from Redstone Government Consulting
The Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) was formed in 1965 to provide a single contract audit capability within the Department of Defense (DoD). Under DoD Directive 5105.36, “Defense Contract Audit Agency,” the primary mission of DCAA is to perform contract audits for DoD. DCAA also provides accounting and financial advisory services regarding contracts and subcontracts to DoD components responsible for procurement and contract administration. In addition, DCAA performs contract audit services for non-DoD Federal organizations, on a reimbursable basis, as appropriate. The fees received by DCAA audit services provided to non-DoD federal organizations exceed the costs of performing those services and represent a significant portion of DCAA’s budget.
